It is the first industrial revolution that occurs with a thorough understanding of how our actions and acts of production impact the environment. Today there are environmental laws, regulations and awareness about the environment and sustainability that will mark this revolution in a way never seen before.
However, not everything will be easy, nanotechnology, the Internet, smartphones and other technologies are changing our lives at a dizzying rate. These changes also bring an uncertain future, right now there are human jobs that are lost because they are unnecessary and it is suggested that in the future many currently valuable professions, such as a lawyer or even a doctor, can be replaced with artificial intelligence systems.
We do not know what kind of world the resulting world will be, how we can respond to these changes and what solution we will find for the millions of people who will soon need to change jobs.
But luckily many of these technologies are already helping to solve ecological problems; Today there is nanotechnology capable of cleaning a polluted lake in days or reducing the emissions of an engine thanks to the control of a computer in an astonishing way, which suggests that sustainability and generating a healthier environment is part of the revolution .
How did the fourth industrial revolution start? The first country to talk about it and which is currently at the forefront of the process was Germany and it is itself one of the countries most committed to environmental issues.
The digital revolution has already changed our world, today the level of information we can handle is overwhelming, we can all be part of cyberspace, we can easily create a web in this way or live connected through our phones or order a taxi or food with an app.
But the fourth industrial revolution goes one step further. Let's imagine for a moment that a paraplegic gets into a suit and with his thought commands it and can, through its mechanical and robotic assistance, move and communicate as if nothing had happened; Well, these things already exist and we are reaching those levels.
In 2016, the fourth industrial revolution was the central theme of the World Economic Forum. Many are betting that the Asian countries will become stronger during this revolution and there are even those who say that there will be a more equitable distribution of goods. This can happen since jobs will be lost in industrialized countries and new opportunities will arise that can probably be better exploited by today's developing countries.
Impact of new technologies on the environment and on our lives.
Nanotechnology is already being used to purify and generate water, without a doubt these new technologies, which are just being born, will be able to help humanity to fight against problems such as pollution or climate change in a much simpler way and on a larger scale .
The potential of all these new technologies is great, we hope that the social, political and ethical frameworks that we need to make good use of these technologies are taken into account. Large industries have already begun with the adaptation and digitization of their processes, achieving savings in time, raw materials and energy.
What is certain is that the change in technologies is real and has come to stay. Now the issue will be if we are able to do it in such a way that we help to obtain better societies and a better planet in which our children live in the right way.
